Mississippi State University will host the 2013 Men of Color Summit on September 5-6, 2013 in the Colvard Student Union on the Starkville campus. All are invited to attend this FREE event. The Summit, in its second year, is designed to engage male minority students with faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and other interested parties to dialogue about issues related to retention, academic success, perception and professional success.

The Summit will begin on the evening of Thursday, September 5 with an opening kickoff featuring MSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Rick Ray and MSU alumnus Dr. Loston Rowe, North America Commercialization Manager with DuPont. Activities will continue on Friday, September 6 with a full day of sessions featuring MSU President, Dr. Mark Keenum, Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Jerry Gilbert, Author/Motivational Speaker Dr. Calvin Mackie, National Society of Black Engineers Executive Director and MSU alumnus Dr. Carl Mack along with a host of other alumni, student and guest panelists.

Session topics will include...

Dollars and Sense: The Importance of Academic Success
--What are the potential financial consequences of failing a course or not earning a degree? This session will focus on the importance of earning a college degree along with strategies for academic success.

Breaking the Code: Perception Issues
--Panelists will analyze the how male minority students perceive themselves and how they are perceived by others. Do these factors influence their overall development?

Breaking the Code: Professional Success
--This session will explore the essential elements for success in the professional world to include the value of internships, experiential learning and advanced education.

Understanding Minority Students
--A special session for administrators, faculty and staff that will provide insight for understanding the needs of minority students and how to better serve those needs.

Guest parking is available at the Palmeiro Center. Click here for a map to this location. Plan to arrive as early as possible. Guests are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the campus transit system which begins service at 7:00am. Click here for route information. You should use the Purple Route which has a stop on Coliseum Blvd. near the Humphrey Coliseum and exit the shuttle at the Roberts Building stop which is near the Colvard Student Union. Please contact Transit Services at 662-325-5204 or ask the shuttle driver for additional directions if necessary.


A limited number T-shirts will be available to the first 225 participants who complete registration on Friday, September 6.
